Tell Me Something Good

A blog of an eighteen year old girl discovering, ranting and contemplating.
A tiny girl who has a lot on her mind and has a lot to say.
Some times she doesn't think, some times she over thinks.
You never know, she just might tell you something good.

Dream to live, and live to believe. Only hope can save us.

Looking Back...

2008 has another year to test my character, to make me a better person.
It has changed me, most likely more than other years.
I've become a better person, and I hope 2009 brings that same opportunity.
I've lost friends, but in return gained some great ones.
I've learned more about myself, and I've learned the hard way.
Life is a journey and 2008 was a strong road.
I managed to get closer to friends, to forget the past and move on.
I've learned that there is more than appears at the surface.
2008 was a good year.

I've made a list of what is '2008' to me.

I bought my first DSLR, Andy.
I went to the first Vancouver show for The Devil Wears Prada.
I turned seventeen.
I learned that PC's SUCK and that MACS PWN.
I gave up on pathetic boys.
I got addicted to 'Friends' the TV show.
I realized that Brett Manning is seriously a god. hahahahaha. Thank you Brett.
2008 makes me want to go to Ohio.
I've had way too many inside jokes this year.
2008 has probably been the year with the most laughter.
STICKAM CHATS WITH OHIO BANDS. <3

I read 'Amazing Grace' which is about the life of William Wilberforce. This book has become my favourite book, other than the Bible. It was completely amazing, and I was speechless.

'Hamlet' is an incredible play. Shakespeare, you really impressed me this time.

'Saint Maybe' has probably one of the most incredible books I've ever read. It was amazing in every aspect, and I'll probably read it several times.

--

Music of 2008.

'Victims' by Akissforjersey. Zach Dawson has PIPES. The man can sing and this record is amazing. The vocals, arrangement, lyrics and music are just mind-blowing.

'Someday Came Suddenly' by Attack Attack! Such a good record... it has: catchy melodies, brutal breakdowns, a great dance beat and probably the best growls ever. I love this album.

'The End Is Not The End' by House of Heroes. This record was supposed to come out mid-summer but it came out in September. So worth the wait, the record really has variety and it's practically perfected. The band stepped away from their typical sound and did some amazing things. Sweet guys too.

LETS GET IT. LETS GET IT. LETS GET IT.
Okay, I love this band. Hahaha. They had their myspace June 4th and I've been amazed by their stuff since. I know big stuff is going to happen for them, no doubts. Plus their stickam chats, pwn.  http://myspace.com/letsgetit

i'm done. i'll post more tonight.
hahahaha.

Sad day..

My uncle died this morning.
He can't breathe on his own, they're keeping him on life support.
Yet, nothing can be done.. he's dead.

I just got an email that my Italy trip is now cancelled.
I'm really pissed off, and sad.
I bought a dress for my 18th, which was going to be there.
Being home schooled, opportunities like this don't happen.
I'm missing out on a lot this year... thanks for the selfish attitudes of my pastor.
'we're saving you from public school,' his exact words.
Like honestly, it's not that bad.
What's worse is secluding a child from the world, trying to protecting when really all you are doing is setting them up for disaster. I'm not exposed to people, I have no people skills. I'm not supported whatsoever. My hopes and dreams can not happen simply because I don't know people. It's pathetic.
My grade 12 year is going to blow for the next six months.

Warmth

Coming home from church there was yet even more snow.
It continues to fall in all it's splendor and mystery.
Our cars are covered in this chilly blanket,
Hearts warm with care, anxiously brush away the flakes on the cars.
Laughter, shovels and 'good nights' fill the cold air.
Smiles beam out as we come together to help one another.
Regardless of the temperature, the hearts of the men and woman glow with warmth.
God has shown me, that indeed there is good.
Good that warms the soul and truly brings glory to His name.

Forget my earlier comments (previous blog).
A few people suck but not society as a whole.
There is some good in society,  no need to look far either.

 I haven't been able to post much due to school, christmas plays and what not.
It's been a crazy few weeks. The play went reasonably well, the Christmas portraits turned out amazing and I made delicious sugar cookies. The weather is absolutely freezing, and I hate it.

I went to a Christmas 'dinner' last thing at a friends house.
It was fun, but it consisted mostly of my youth leaders who bonded.
So I just ate and ate.
And.... THEN IT STARTED TO SNOW.
We all rushed to the window like children, our faces filled with joy as we saw snow flakes drift onto a blanket of snow.
Snow just has that captivating power, to make even the most serious of souls be filled with joy as a child. It's amazing.

We have a lot of snow coming, more than I ever remembered.
We got about 7-8 inches at my house on Wednesday.
Last night it was about another 4-5ish.
Over today we're going to get about 4.
Tomorrow and Tuesday will bring about another 7.
Wednesday about 4 inches.
AND THEN IT'S GOING TO SNOW ON CHRISTMAS.

I've learned over the last weeks by being a nice guy (girl), you're a target.
You try to help, only to get stabbed back again.
I'm starting to dislike people, greatly.

p.s.. those cookies in the picture, i baked and shot.
and ate as well.

It's been four straight years that near Christmas my voice gets damaged and my solo performances are destroyed.
So now, I have a sore throat and major congestion. AND IT SUCKS.
If you're sick, STAY HOME. It's pretty simple, so now I'm not feeling the best.
My vocal 'coaching' is on hold until I get better. Which ruins my 'sound really, really good for the concert night and blow everyone away' plan. I've been praying it away and it's not as bad. However, it seems that as my throat gets better, the congestion acts up and vise versa.
I know I'll get better just in time. :]
In the meantime, I'm not taking any cough or flu meds. I don't find them necessary.

I don't really want to talk to people anymore.
If you don't have something good to say, don't say anything at all.
Some people I know, will go through complete heartbreak but will still be humble in grateful in God's name. These people, are people that I truly admire.

Jennifer, reading your blog... I see that. You're humble and grateful and you won't let the turmoils life throws at you... defeat you.
You're amazing.

Lead Us Home

I haven’t blogged for about a month. It’s been a little awkward, cause I haven’t had anywhere to vent, contemplate or elaborate. Which is something I really need, I’m going to make an effort to blog just so I can get things off my chest, good or bad.

The past few weeks have had both ups and downs but mostly downs. So many times I’ve cried myself to sleep, and I just pretended to everyone that everything was fine. This is my biggest mistake, suffocating my emotional turmoil so it can cause greater damage to my heart.

Friends, I don’t have them…. Or maybe I do? I’m not really too sure. I have school/church friends (they are the same people), which I’ve known for my whole life. I consider them my family; this isn’t a serious friendship there, it’s mostly laugher. Then there are the other friends that I’m struggling with. I just wish I could have friends that would support me in the important aspects of my life. My dreams, my hopes, my fears and most importantly my faith; these are the places where I need support. No one has been helping, yes a little ‘oh tell me what happened’ and then they never reply. It’s all fine and dandy but it really isn’t caring. It’s being considerate for the moment but not really caring about the present situation. It hurts how I take my time out of my day to help friends and in return they stab me in the back. For some friend, I get calls for them past midnight, crying… yes I’m sleeping but I put that aside to be a friend. Why can’t anyone do that for me? It’s either… ‘Oh, I have something to do,’ or ‘Hmm, oh well.’ I want to be your friends, is it that difficult to return the favor? I have no one I can turn to, who can be serious and really care. It hurts more than you imagine, I can tell you that. I’m home schooled, I have no life, I don’t know much about anything and I’m awkward. I wonder why people can’t stand me, but honestly… why? Those aren’t legitimate answers.

I’m sick of crying. I’m sick of waiting for a true friend.

I’m holding onto patience, but my grip is slipping.

all-nighter

was awesome.

but i got hit in the eye in dodgeball.
my eye started to swell up right away.
it still is, just a tad.. and it's extremely red and it burns.
and it's a little blurry to see through..
they found the guy that hit me and they attacked him execution style in dodgeball.
However, he only got hit like twice out of 20 something shots.

beside the point.
I slept more there then I do at home.
30 minutes in the spa room watching '50 first dates.'
they had to kick me out so I moved to a different movie. haha
45 - 1 hour watching kung fu panda.
and about the same during iron man.

I got home at 7. Didn't sleep till 8 and I woke up at 11:30.

YAY FOR SLEEP.

Her Feet Go Down to Death

Proverbs 5

 1My son, attend unto my wisdom, and bow thine ear to my understanding:

 2That thou mayest regard discretion, and that thy lips may keep knowledge.

 3For the lips of a strange woman drop as an honeycomb, and her mouth is smoother than oil:

 4But her end is bitter as wormwood, sharp as a two-edged sword.

 5Her feet go down to death; her steps take hold on hell.

 6Lest thou shouldest ponder the path of life, her ways are moveable, that thou canst not know them.

 7Hear me now therefore, O ye children, and depart not from the words of my mouth.

 8Remove thy way far from her, and come not nigh the door of her house:

 9Lest thou give thine honour unto others, and thy years unto the cruel:

 10Lest strangers be filled with thy wealth; and thy labours be in the house of a stranger;

 11And thou mourn at the last, when thy flesh and thy body are consumed,

 12And say, How have I hated instruction, and my heart despised reproof;

 13And have not obeyed the voice of my teachers, nor inclined mine ear to them that instructed me!

 14I was almost in all evil in the midst of the congregation and assembly.

 15Drink waters out of thine own cistern, and running waters out of thine own well.

 16Let thy fountains be dispersed abroad, and rivers of waters in the streets.

 17Let them be only thine own, and not strangers' with thee.

 18Let thy fountain be blessed: and rejoice with the wife of thy youth.

 19Let her be as the loving hind and pleasant roe; let her breasts satisfy thee at all times; and be thou ravished always with her love.

 20And why wilt thou, my son, be ravished with a strange woman, and embrace the bosom of a stranger?

 21For the ways of man are before the eyes of the LORD, and he pondereth all his goings.

 22His own iniquities shall take the wicked himself, and he shall be holden with the cords of his sins.

 23He shall die without instruction; and in the greatness of his folly he shall go astray.

--

In this chapter of Proverbs, rejecting wisdom is also considered a 'she'. Just as wisdom is a faith companion, rejecting wisdom is a powerful force that can put you in misery. We've all heard this before, you ignore advice you are given and you end up in a rut. We've learned this and hopefully made a change.

Do not be tempted with foolishness. It will only dig your grave. Trust the Lord, fellowship in his name and all shall be added unto you

Sorry this is short, I have a headache.

Keep Her; For She is Thy Life

Proverbs 4

 1Hear, ye children, the instruction of a father, and attend to know understanding.

 2For I give you good doctrine, forsake ye not my law.

 3For I was my father's son, tender and only beloved in the sight of my mother.

 4He taught me also, and said unto me, Let thine heart retain my words: keep my commandments, and live.

 5Get wisdom, get understanding: forget it not; neither decline from the words of my mouth.

 6Forsake her not, and she shall preserve thee: love her, and she shall keep thee.

 7Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.

 8Exalt her, and she shall promote thee: she shall bring thee to honour, when thou dost embrace her.

 9She shall give to thine head an ornament of grace: a crown of glory shall she deliver to thee.

 10Hear, O my son, and receive my sayings; and the years of thy life shall be many.

 11I have taught thee in the way of wisdom; I have led thee in right paths.

 12When thou goest, thy steps shall not be straitened; and when thou runnest, thou shalt not stumble.

 13Take fast hold of instruction; let her not go: keep her; for she is thy life.

 14Enter not into the path of the wicked, and go not in the way of evil men.

 15Avoid it, pass not by it, turn from it, and pass away.

 16For they sleep not, except they have done mischief; and their sleep is taken away, unless they cause some to fall.

 17For they eat the bread of wickedness, and drink the wine of violence.

 18But the path of the just is as the shining light, that shineth more and more unto the perfect day.

 19The way of the wicked is as darkness: they know not at what they stumble.

 20My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings.

 21Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine heart.

 22For they are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh.

 23Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.

 24Put away from thee a froward mouth, and perverse lips put far from thee.

 25Let thine eyes look right on, and let thine eyelids look straight before thee.

 26Ponder the path of thy feet, and let all thy ways be established.

 27Turn not to the right hand nor to the left: remove thy foot from evil.

--

I love how wisdom in this chapter is always referred as 'her' and 'she'. To me this ads a loving, gentle touch to the word wisdom. Rather than being an intimidating word that lays down the law, it is seen here as a spiritual friend and companion. She will guide you, she will never leave you, thus you should never forsake her. She seems to be a loyal friend, through thick and thin (as cheesy as that sounds). Wisdom is not only knowledge, it is something you can use throughout your whole life, in every situation... just as you would need a good friend. In troubled times, she will help you to keep your eyes fixed on God. Wisdom is what keeps us on the right path, without it who knows where we would be right now. Wisdom keeps us in line with moral values, life decisions and most importantly God.

Who could pass on a friend like this?

Precious than Rubies

Proverbs 3

Further Benefits of Wisdom

 1 My son, do not forget my teaching,
       but keep my commands in your heart,

 2 for they will prolong your life many years
       and bring you prosperity.

 3 Let love and faithfulness never leave you;
       bind them around your neck,
       write them on the tablet of your heart.

 4 Then you will win favor and a good name
       in the sight of God and man.

 5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart
       and lean not on your own understanding;

 6 in all your ways acknowledge him,
       and he will make your paths straight.
[a]

 7 Do not be wise in your own eyes;
       fear the LORD and shun evil.

 8 This will bring health to your body
       and nourishment to your bones.

 9 Honor the LORD with your wealth,
       with the firstfruits of all your crops;

 10 then your barns will be filled to overflowing,
       and your vats will brim over with new wine.

 11 My son, do not despise the LORD's discipline
       and do not resent his rebuke,

 12 because the LORD disciplines those he loves,
       as a father
[b] the son he delights in.

 13 Blessed is the man who finds wisdom,
       the man who gains understanding,

 14 for she is more profitable than silver
       and yields better returns than gold.

 15 She is more precious than rubies;
       nothing you desire can compare with her.

 16 Long life is in her right hand;
       in her left hand are riches and honor.

 17 Her ways are pleasant ways,
       and all her paths are peace.

 18 She is a tree of life to those who embrace her;
       those who lay hold of her will be blessed.

 19 By wisdom the LORD laid the earth's foundations,
       by understanding he set the heavens in place;

 20 by his knowledge the deeps were divided,
       and the clouds let drop the dew.

 21 My son, preserve sound judgment and discernment,
       do not let them out of your sight;

 22 they will be life for you,
       an ornament to grace your neck.

 23 Then you will go on your way in safety,
       and your foot will not stumble;

 24 when you lie down, you will not be afraid;
       when you lie down, your sleep will be sweet.

 25 Have no fear of sudden disaster
       or of the ruin that overtakes the wicked,

 26 for the LORD will be your confidence
       and will keep your foot from being snared.

 27 Do not withhold good from those who deserve it,
       when it is in your power to act.

 28 Do not say to your neighbor,
       "Come back later; I'll give it tomorrow"—
       when you now have it with you.

 29 Do not plot harm against your neighbor,
       who lives trustfully near you.

 30 Do not accuse a man for no reason—
       when he has done you no harm.

 31 Do not envy a violent man
       or choose any of his ways,

 32 for the LORD detests a perverse man
       but takes the upright into his confidence.

 33 The LORD's curse is on the house of the wicked,
       but he blesses the home of the righteous.

 34 He mocks proud mockers
       but gives grace to the humble.

 35 The wise inherit honor,
       but fools he holds up to shame.

--

when you lie down, you will not be afraid;
       when you lie down, your sleep will be sweet. - verse 24

This stood out the most to me. If you know my current situation, I'm getting about 45 minutes of sleep of night for the past 13 nights. It's wisdom that will give me peace. Wisdom and reliance on my Savior for complete rest.

Wisdom is more than guidance. It is our protector, advisor, friend and most importantly our encouragement. Wisdom is something that we need to live. Not only spiritually but mentally, emotionally and physically. Wisdom is not only knowledge but it is complied from years of experience. Wisdom is not something you learn. It's something you gain through life, and through our Heavenly Father above.

You want sleep? Seek God, not pills. This is why I'm so reluctant to go to the doctor, as I don't want to be given drugs that hide my problem. It is God that will solve the problem that makes me lose sleep. He will heal me. This is my benefit of wisdom.

What's yours?

I am not wise at all. but I try to put God first. By using his word as my guide.

Wisdom as a Shield

Proverbs 2

 1My son, if thou wilt receive my words, and hide my commandments with thee;

 2So that thou incline thine ear unto wisdom, and apply thine heart to understanding;

 3Yea, if thou criest after knowledge, and liftest up thy voice for understanding;

 4If thou seekest her as silver, and searchest for her as for hid treasures;

 5Then shalt thou understand the fear of the LORD, and find the knowledge of God.

 6For the LORD giveth wisdom: out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding.

 7He layeth up sound wisdom for the righteous: he is a buckler to them that walk uprightly.

 8He keepeth the paths of judgment, and preserveth the way of his saints.

 9Then shalt thou understand righteousness, and judgment, and equity; yea, every good path.

 10When wisdom entereth into thine heart, and knowledge is pleasant unto thy soul;

 11Discretion shall preserve thee, understanding shall keep thee:

 12To deliver thee from the way of the evil man, from the man that speaketh froward things;

 13Who leave the paths of uprightness, to walk in the ways of darkness;

 14Who rejoice to do evil, and delight in the frowardness of the wicked;

 15Whose ways are crooked, and they froward in their paths:

 16To deliver thee from the strange woman, even from the stranger which flattereth with her words;

 17Which forsaketh the guide of her youth, and forgetteth the covenant of her God.

 18For her house inclineth unto death, and her paths unto the dead.

 19None that go unto her return again, neither take they hold of the paths of life.

 20That thou mayest walk in the way of good men, and keep the paths of the righteous.

 21For the upright shall dwell in the land, and the perfect shall remain in it.

 22But the wicked shall be cut off from the earth, and the transgressors shall be rooted out of it

--

Those who seek after the wisdom of God; he will watch over you. wisdom is something that can save you from your darkest times. It is also God that will ultimately save you. Wisdom is not only knowledge; it is your guide, mentor, spiritual growth and most importantly your shield. Wisdom is not only in your mind, it is evident through our actions. Our words are the most powerful and destructive tools we can use. It can lead both to mental, emotional and physical distress. Why I say physical is you can openly mock someone, emotionally they are hurt and physically they will hurt themselves. Our words are not only in the moment, they can live on for years causing the same pain that it did the first time. Words are destructive, they cause far more damage than we can comprehend. With wisdom we can use our words to heal, nurture and love. That is what we are called to do in our lives as Christians. Show love to those around us through our words and actions. Only through wisdom will we use the right actions and words to have a positive impact.

Wisdom will protect you from your very death as this chapter tells us. Making the wrong decisions will dig our graves. The actions that can lead us down that very path are disguised. As 'alien women with flattering words,' aka girls who are flirts. For the girls: in a very attractive, promising boy ... there can be trouble. Simple words can lead you astray. But how do we make sure that we make the right decisions?  Through wisdom we can see the opportunities that can take us down. Our conscious, a gift from God, is meant to protect us from the death, turmoil and trouble that awaits for us in the dark.

Stay in tune with God. His wisdom will guide you among the story line that is your life. Give him the chance, give him the glory. This chance will bring you wisdom and life.

After all... who wants a autobiography with a tragic ending?
